Often called “Jerry World” in honor of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, AT&T Stadium has the largest capacity of any NFL stadium. AT&T Stadium is located in Arlington, Texas, between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth.
How much did AT&T Stadium cost to build?
The cost of building the venue was initially estimated at $650 million, but rose to $1.15 billion, making it one of the most expensive sports venues ever built at the time. The stadium is also currently undergoing a $295 million renovation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Is AT&T Stadium the largest stadium in the NFL by capacity?
AT&T Stadium can accommodate 80,000 people for sporting events, making it the third largest in the NFL behind MetLife Stadium and Lambeau Field, but it can be reconfigured to accommodate more than 100,000 people, making it the largest in terms of total capacity.
Special features of AT&T Stadium
The spacious stadium features a number of amenities, described below on the Cowboys official website:
- The stadium features a 600-ton LED screen video board measuring 72 feet high and 160 feet wide, with a total viewing area of 11,393 square feet. It hangs 90 feet above the field and has four video boards facing outward in each direction.
- Retractable end zone glass doors provide view and direct access to end zone areas.
- The facility features two 300-foot-tall arches that span the entire length of the stadium dome.
- There are more than 300 suites and numerous clubs, as well as more than 3,000 Sony LCD screens throughout lobbies and concessions.
Does AT&T Stadium have a retractable roof?
Yes, AT&T is one of five NFL stadiums with a retractable roof.
The stadium’s roof opening is approximately 410 feet long and 256 feet wide, and the retractable roof can open and close in just 12 minutes using a precision rack-and-pinion system.
The retractable roof is designed to give Cowboys fans an open-air environment, but also protect them from the elements if necessary.
Does AT&T Stadium have curtains?
Yes, AT&T Stadium has curtains, but they are not used to block the sun during Cowboys games.
The facility’s end zones face the east and west, and large glass windows often invite sunlight directly into the field, causing visibility issues for Cowboys players.
AT&T Stadium uses curtains to cover these windows during concerts and other on-site events, but owner Jerry Jones was unhappy with the idea of using them for football games.
