GUWAHATI: A state-of-the-art badminton academy, named MES-Dipankar’s Badminton Academy, is set to open at the premises of Modern English School, Kahilipara in the second week of January. This joint venture between former Olympian Dipankar Bhattacharjee and Modern English School aspires to become a leading badminton training center, not only for the region but across India.
The academy will boast five state-of-the-art training courts, a specialized strength and conditioning zone, and sports science facilities, designed to nurture the next generation of badminton talent.
During a visit to the academy on Tuesday, Dipankar, applauded the school’s efforts in creating a high-quality badminton training hub in Guwahati. Speaking to the media, he said, “It’s a great initiative from Modern English School. We are arranging everything to make this one of the best academies in the country and are also hiring top coaches from India and abroad to train the local players.”
Notably, Indonesian coach Andri Ramza Rahmadani will lead as the chief coach, supported by renowned Indian coach Gaurav Malhan, ensuring the highest quality of training for aspiring players.
Pankaj Das, Director of Modern English School, shared the academy’s ambitious vision. He said, “Every aspect of MES-Dipankar’s Badminton Academy is designed to empower athletes with world-class facilities. Our aim is to produce an Olympian by 2036 and we will try our best to reach that goal.”
The academy will initially accommodate 50 trainees from beginners to advance group, with plans to expand enrollment in the future. Training sessions will be divided into three daily slots, starting as early as 5:30 AM. Das also mentioned efforts to integrate training schedules with the school’s academic framework to provide additional opportunities for its students in the training.
