Aizawl, the 28th of November, 2024: At 9:30 AM today, Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of State for the Sports & Youth Services Department and President of the Mizoram State Sports Council, held a felicitation ceremony in his office chamber at MINECO to honor medalists from various national and international badminton tournaments.
Speaking at the event, Sports Minister Pu Lalnhinglova Hmar said, “Badminton has long been a popular sport in Mizoram, played mostly for leisure. However, our players have now reached new heights in competition, demonstrating exceptional skill and potential.”
The Sports Minister added, “The Mizoram Badminton Association has been working diligently and achieving excellent results. With support from Tata Trusts and structured training and management, we have made built steady progress and a hopeful future. The unwavering commitment and effort of parents have been instrumental in guiding their children on this journey. Your dedication has brought them this far, and I encourage you to continue supporting them with the same passion and perseverance. If you stand by their side until the end, I am confident they will achieve great success, both professionally and personally.”
The Minister also announced that medalists would be included in the Incentive Cash Award scheme. During the ceremony, the Mizoram State Sports Council presented tokens of appreciation to the medalists, while Yonex provided badminton equipment to the 22 champions of this year’s State Championship.
The Minister highlighted the collaborative efforts with Tata Trusts to advance badminton in Mizoram, noting that Mizos have great potential in the sport. He stated, “Badminton is one of the most popular sports in India, played widely across the country. This makes achieving success in India very challenging. However, if we can win medals at the national level and beyond, success at the international level is definitely within reach.” He also praised the Mizoram Badminton Association, saying, “The MBA deserves immense credit for their contributions. Despite financial constraints, they work tirelessly for the benefit of players. Their current achievements reflect their hard work.”
Neelam Babardesai, Head of Sports at Tata Trusts, who also attended the event, expressed her admiration for Mizoram’s badminton progress. She emphasized the importance of continued support and collaboration to further the development of the sport in the state.
The ceremony was attended by Mizoram State Sports Council Secretary Henry C. Lalrawnkima, SYS Joint Director Pu C. Lalremsanga, other officials from the Sports & Youth Services Department, Mizoram Badminton Association leaders, and parents of the medalists.
