Dodgers defeat Yankees in Game 5 to win World Series championship

In Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 7–6 in Game 5 to win the World Series in a best-of-seven game. This is the Dodgers’ eighth World Series title and first in four years.

The Dodgers erased a five-run deficit the team had at one point to surprise their opponents, prompting a collective sigh from Yankees fans at their home stadium in New York on Wednesday.

Japanese superstar Ohtani Shohei was the designated hitter batting first in the starting lineup despite his left shoulder injury.

Ohtani didn’t score a single point in four in the game. But it was his dream come true to win the World Series title seven years after arriving in MLB.

His Japanese teammate, Yamamoto Yoshinobu, was the winning pitcher in Game 2.

In Ohtani’s hometown of Oshu City in Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, about 150 fans gathered at a public screening at the city hall.

Cheers erupted as the Dodgers secured the victory.

A local woman in her 30s said she was very proud of Ohtani as a fellow citizen of Oshu.

Another woman in her 40s, who said she attended the same college as Ohtani, said she was moved to witness the moment he realized his dream.

The city plans to display a banner congratulating him on his World Series victory at City Hall in November.
