The way Saquon Barkley is plowing through the season is impressive. He puts himself in MVP position – and shows that a modern NFL myth is simply not true. A comment.

You can guess what John Mara is going through at the moment. The owner of the New York Giants is likely to have restless or even sleepless nights. And get incredibly annoyed.
His Giants have been making a mockery of themselves in the NFL for years, there’s nothing sporty about them anyway, and one person represents the whole dilemma.
No, not Daniel Jones. Yes, that one too, but there is more.
The fact that Saquon Barkley was allowed to move to the rival Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent in the offseason brings the current ineptitude of a franchise to an unflattering point.
The most important thing in brief
Saquon Barkley: Historic Season?
And the fact that the running back is now having the best season of his career is the icing on the cake. Refined by the realistic chance of becoming the MVP of the season.
Most Valuable Player, and that as a running back.
Adrian Peterson was the last person to do this. That was in 2012. Since then, the value of the backs has suffered extremely. They have to fight for big contracts for a long time, their half-life is limited, and they play in the most interchangeable and financially thankless position in the current NFL era.
Barkley shows how great the value of a ball carrier can still be and refutes the modern NFL myth that you actually don’t need a running back anymore – or much less than before.

Saquon Barkley: Franchise record against Rams
In the 37:20 win over the Los Angeles Rams, he had 255 rushing yards, setting a franchise record. This included two runs of 70 and 72 yards.
In 11 games, Barkley has rushed for a career-high 1,392 yards. With an average of 126.5 yards per game, he is currently on pace to break Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards from 1984. It goes without saying that he leads the league in rushing and scrimmage yards.
Saquon Barkley: Guarantee for 9-2 Eagles
Above all, with a total of 1,649 yards and twelve touchdowns, he is a guarantee that the Eagles are 9-2. And the playoffs are a formality, plus a deep run in the postseason is becoming increasingly realistic.
“Saquon is a special player,” said head coach Nick Sirianni. “We were able to hit a couple home runs. Saquon has that ability – to hit home runs.”
Sirianni continued: “If you have the kind of quickness, lateral agility, the ability to accelerate, the speed to finish and the strength to break through an arm tackle, then he has everything you want in a running back . He’s great.”
NFL highlights: Eagles continue to be furious – Barkley unstoppable
Barkley, who is clearly inspired by the new opportunity and a new environment after six years in New York, knows who he has to thank.
Saquon Barkley loves the MVP discussions
“I’ll probably get a lot of credit and everyone will say this and that, but in reality the beauty of this game is that it’s a team game”; Barkley said. “My favorite Nick quote is, ‘It’s hard to be great without the greatness of others.’ And these guys [in der O-Line] and the tight ends and wide receivers who block are super great.”
He still loves being in the MVP discussion, he openly admits that.
Considering that even Christian McCaffrey hasn’t made it to MVP honors yet, Barkley’s chances are likely to be at underdog level.
But that doesn’t mean he has no chance if things continue like this. He makes the offense better and therefore the team, in this form the Eagles are difficult to figure out and crack.
Saquon Barkley: MVP? Super Bowl? Beides!
If he maintains the standard, there’s really no way around him, even if the MVP award has become a quarterback award in recent years.
But Barkley sets priorities anyway.
MVP? Offensive Player of the Year? He would trade both for a victory in the Super Bowl.
Why not MVP and Super Bowl? That’s not completely absurd. And we can already vividly imagine what John Mara’s nights would be like then.
