English goalkeeper Mary Earps became the first female footballer to be honored with a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in London.
The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, who helped England finish second in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, won a public vote on which England players will be displayed in the museum.
In a process that took more than a year of cooperation between the museum and Earps, the statue of the 31-year-old player appeared in the green England national team goalkeeper kit that she wore in the 2023 World Cup final.
“Being the first female footballer to have a statue in Madame Tussauds in London is very special,” Earps told reporters.
She added: “This is not about me, but rather it represents how women’s football is growing and the path it is on.”
England, which has secured a place in the 2025 European Championship where it will defend its title, will host its rival, Olympic champions America, in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium on November 30.
