A serious complaint shakes the Peruvian Badminton Sports Federation (FDPB). Gonzalo Castillo Guzmán, current president of the organization, is at the center of the controversy after being accused of trying to ignore the electoral process carried out on November 24. In these elections, List No. 1, opposed to his management, was declared the winner to assume the leadership in the period 2025-2028.
The electoral process began on October 17, when Castillo called an Extraordinary Assembly to appoint the Electoral Committee. The assembly was held on October 21, and Marco La Jara, Rafael Parra and Pecy Alache were elected as members of the committee in charge of carrying out the process.
On October 25, Castillo officially recognized the Electoral Committee and requested to define a date for the elections. In response, on October 30, the president of the committee, Marco La Jara, designated November 17 as the day for the elections. However, Castillo tried to postpone the date to December 17, contravening the directives of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), which ordered through circular letter No. 31-2024-DINADAF/IPD that elections within the national sports federations be held within from the months of July to September of this year. Faced with this delay, the elections had to be held as soon as possible.
Finally, the Electoral Committee reaffirmed its decision and established November 24 as the final date, a decision that was ratified by the members of the base assembly (clubs) through the letter dated November 20 addressed to Gonzalo Castillo Guzmán where he They indicated that they respect the schedule of the electoral process established by the electoral committee of the FDPB.
The process was carried out within the legal framework and was supervised by a notary public. That day, after counting the votes, List No. 1 was declared the winner, with 6 votes in favor and not List No. 02, which is “close” to the president of the FDPB who only reached 01 vote.
However, the next day, Castillo surprised the badminton community by calling through a new Extraordinary Assembly to elect a second Electoral Committee, the same one that he intends to hold on 11/29/24 at 7:30 p.m., with the objective to restart the process from scratch. This maneuver has been described by the complainants as “illegal, undemocratic and abusive.”
The complainants claim to have all the documentation that supports their case and have asked the media to make this conflict visible.
