The sports hall of the Lower Sorbian High School in Cottbus was the venue for the East German Martial Arts Championship yesterday (November 9th). Under the direction of Sensei Christina Herold, Doitsu-Budo-Kwai eV Cottbus organized the diverse competition day.
Thomas Bergner – responsible for order, safety, sport and health in our city – and Ron Radlow from the city sports association opened the competition day. In addition to judo and karate, the athletes were also able to compete in the disciplines of jiu-jitsu, combat arnis and bojutsu. It looks a bit dangerous when you defend yourself with a 180 cm long hardwood stick in Bo-Jutsu, a martial art from Japan.
8 East German clubs took part in the competition
Almost 100 children, young people and adults from 8 East German clubs came together here in Cottbus on Saturday. The martial artists from the 1st Asian Martial Arts Club Zwickau, Zanshin-Dojo Vetschau eV, from Halle and Dresden as well as the Tengu Dojo Berlin, PSV, Shogun and DBK Cottbus took part in the competition with a lot of discipline, ambition and respect for their opponents.
In the team ranking, the Asian Martial Arts Club Zwickau took first place, followed by Doitsu-Budo-Kwai Cottbus. The Zanshin-Dojo Vetschau eV achieved a solid 3rd place. Congratulations!
