The Aviles native returns from Galicia with second place in the western sector and is already thinking about the Gran Canaria event on November 29 and 30
Good result in the western sector held in Galicia this weekend. The objective was to qualify for the final phase of the Spanish championship that will be held at the end of the month in November and it was achieved, although there are also subjects that must be worked on. Elisa Fernández (63kg) was second in her weight and will be in the state event.
The Avilesina fought two fights. The semi-final against the Castilian-Leonese Adriana Cabezudo, a rival who could not resist Fernández’s judo. “He handled it very well in terms of attitude and the tactical work that we have worked on in recent weeks,” said his coach. Ricardo García wanted to highlight his opponent’s “mastery of the sleeve and anticipation in all attacks.” The only ‘but’ was the refereeing: “They gave her three shidos, but the referees could have done it sooner because Elisa dominated the fight from start to finish.”
The final against the Cantabrian Irene Camus was more complicated. “We got quite stuck,” García pointed out. For the man from Aviles, the biggest handicap was that “we were not able to control his right hand. That bothered us and from there, Camus took out his judo and managed to get us two waza-aris. There is work ahead for the state event: “Elisa was aware at all times of the errors and discomfort of the fight.” All in all, the coach was “satisfied because it was a good competition.”
The protagonist also took stock of her time in the sector with two “quite tactical” rivals. In the case of Cabezudo “I reached the sensations I wanted and after tying at two shidos, I managed to score the third.” In the case of Camus, a rival whom he had defeated in the Spanish Cup held in Marín, “we had prepared the tactical approach well, but I was not able to execute it. “His right hand on top hurt me and I couldn’t put it in danger at any time.”
Fernández appeared with “mixed feelings” for the Gran Canaria state event. The main problem is that “I make many entries in competition, but I can’t finish. We have to ensure that the tactical approach that I worked with Ricardo on, and that we know how to do, comes to fruition.”
The woman from Aviles considers that for the Spanish championship “we will have to add an extra because the rivals that I am going to encounter are stronger than those in the sector.”
