The Danish badminton star adds a legendary capacity to his coaching staff.
“I am extremely happy to be able to announce that he will be part of my coaching team,” writes Axelsen.
New challenges ahead
Axelsen, who won Olympic gold in 2021 and has since maintained an independent training setup in Dubai, is looking forward to combining his international training with sessions at his academy in Denmark.
This is not the first time the two have worked together. A young Viktor Axelsen trained with the legend himself towards the end of his active career, and he quickly became a source of inspiration for the Odensean.
With this new setup, Axelsen hopes to tackle the challenges that arise as a world star and maintain his position in the badminton elite. For Danish badminton fans and the sport as a whole, the collaboration between Axelsen and Gade is a dream that is now coming true.
A legend returns
Peter Gade is an icon in badminton. In his active career, he won five World Cup medals, an All England trophy and achieved a place at the top of the world for almost 15 years before retiring in 2012.
Since then, Gade has worked as a coach, first as French national coach and then as manager of his own Peter Gade Academy in Gentofte. The academy is a recognized platform where both Danish and international players train for major tournaments.
“With Peter’s badminton knowledge – combined with his experience of playing into his 30s – I am sure that he can help me tackle some of the challenges I will face in the future,” writes Axelsen.
