Germany is the European curling champion. The national team of Men won the European Championship again after twenty years. Skip Marc Muskatewitz’s team won 9-7 against defending champions and record winners Scotland in Lohja, Finland. The last major title in the men’s division was in 2004. Back then, Sebastian Stock led the German crew to victory at the European Championships in Bulgaria.
“It feels great. Everything worked out this week. It’s a bit unreal to be here as a winner,” said Muskatewitz. “We had nothing to lose today against the best team in the world. We could go out and just play our best curling.”
National coach Uli Kapp’s team had already qualified for next year’s World Cup in Canada during the tournament. It’s also about qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. The last time German curlers took part in the Olympics was in Sochi in 2014.
After almost two decades without a top placement at the World and European Championships and missing two Olympic Winter Games in a row, the men’s team of the German Curling Association (DCV) has taken the next big step on the way back to the top of the world. The last time German curlers stood on a European Championship podium was 16 years ago when they came third in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.
