(MHN Sports Reporter Kwon Soo-yeon) Carlos Alcaras (Spain), ranked 3rd in the world, was eliminated early in the final match of the men’s professional tennis (ATP) tour season.
Alcaras gave a set score to Alexander Zverev (2nd place, Germany) in the 3rd match of the Newcomb Group singles group stage of the ATP Tour Nitto ATP Finals (total prize money: $15.25 million) held in Turin, Italy on the 15th (local time). They were defeated 0-2 (6-7 4-6).
The ATP Finals is a king-of-the-match tournament in which the top 8 singles and top 8 doubles groups who have achieved decent results throughout the year participate.
With 1 win and 2 losses, Momchun Alcaras reached the semifinals in this tournament last year, but was eliminated early this time.
Alcaras lifted the championship trophy at two major tournaments this year, the French Open and Wimbledon. In fact, he was considered one of the strongest candidates to win this competition, but he caused a surprise.
Accordingly, the semifinals of this year’s ATP Finals will be a match between Jannik Sinder (1st place, Italy) and Kasper Ruud (7th place, Norway) and Zverev and Taylor Fritz (5th place, USA).
Meanwhile, Alcaras is scheduled to participate in the Davis Cup, the men’s national tennis tournament, to be held in Malaga, Spain, starting on the 19th.
