This tournament is the last tournament of the season in which only the top eight players with points earned this season can participate. Players will be divided into two groups of four and compete in a round-robin format, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The 27-year-old world No. 2 Zverev has won two titles this season: the BNL Italia International (Rome, Italy, Red Clay, ATP Masters) and the Rolex Paris Masters (Paris, France, Indoor Hard, ATP Masters). .
They entered the tournament with a record of 66 wins and 20 losses, and won all three matches in the qualifying round robin to take first place and advance to the semifinals.
However, in the semifinals that day, he lost in all sets to Fritz, who had lost three consecutive games. He left the tournament without making it to the finals.
ATP, the men’s professional tennis association, posted Zverev’s comments on its official website.
“I had a lot of chances overall in the third set (of the semi-finals) and I thought I played at a decent level, so this loss is a bit of a shock. Our level may have been higher than his, but we made some mistakes in important moments. This loss will be more shocking than some of the others.”
“I had some great games (this season). I won about 65 games (69-21). It was an interesting year for me, especially after the injury. Coming back fully at this level, It was my first year competing in a big tournament. I won the Masters twice.”
“But I think what remains in my mind are the tough losses. Losing to Daniil (Medvedev) at the Australian Open, and losing to Carlos (Alcaraz) in the French Open final. These matches are the ones that stay in my heart. I’m still there. I promise to do my best to get back to the same moment and position next year. I’m going to do my best to win.”
On the other hand, Fritz, who won, became the first American player to advance to the final in 18 years, following J. Blake (USA) who took second place in 2006.
Fritz will face No. 1 seed J. Sinner (Italy) in the final. Sinner advanced by defeating sixth seed C. Ruud (Norway) in the semifinals.
