From Monday, November 4 to Saturday, November 9, 2024, the annual exhibition that the Avilesino Philatelic Group has been organizing since its foundation in 1951 will be held at the House of Culture, although with the name ‘ExfiAvilés’ it is much more recent, back in 1998.
The exhibition brings together stamps of all colors and sizes, postmarks, postal stationery (this is the name given to a pre-franked envelope issued by an official postal entity, which has a stamp or other emblem printed on it) that are displayed in 76 display cases with an offer of 14 collections of the most varied, ranging from local issues such as ‘Postal History of Avilés: 19th Century’, to other upcoming ones such as ‘Galicia 18th and 19th Centuries’, ‘State Spanish: 1936-1951’, ‘Official Correspondence in the 19th Century’, ‘The History of Navigation’, and others more distant such as ‘German Empire’, ‘The Spanish Marianas’.
There are also curious collections such as ‘First Day of Israel’ covers, and correspondence with France, as well as commemorative envelopes and stamps and postal stationery from Argentina and private initiatives from Spain.
In this edition we want to give special prominence, the central axis of the exhibition, to the Palace and the Balsera family, with an inaugural conference by the historian, member of the Royal Institute of Asturian Studies and of the Group’s Governing Board. Philatelic Avilesino, Román Antonio Álvarez González.
Throughout the week there will be conferences and activities in which we want to give play to the younger generations to develop their talents and get them interested in stamps. In this sense, there will be visits by students from schools and philately workshops with guided tours of the exhibition.
One of the ExfiAvilés 2024 milestones will be the putting into circulation of the special ExfiAvilés 2024 postmarks (Your Stamp Card, Personalized Stamp and Envelope) and the 25th Anniversary of the Judo Club Avilés (Personalized Stamp and Envelope), with a round table on the history of the club (Wednesday 7:30 p.m.) Round Table. “XXV years of the Judo Club Avilés”.
The day is the closing of the exhibition, Saturday, and over lunch the medals and diplomas will be awarded, as well as the Vidal Menéndez Regional Postmark Award and the XXXI Gold Badge, the Group’s highest award. Philatelic. A tribute will also be paid to Arturo Ferrer Zavala, President of the Guipuzcoan Philatelic Association, and Vice President of the Basque Federation, in this second position for more than 25 years, for his support and collaboration with the Aviles group.
