Incredible experience for the girls of Olimpia Arma Taggia, training in the brand new Palasport in Genoa and meeting the Italian women’s national basketball team who will play the qualifiers for EuroBasket 2025 against the Czech Republic tomorrow.
Present were: Casandra Costa, Agata Ferrari, Greta Piccone, Amelie Alizzi, Sveva Attanà, Viola Cernagor Rinaldi, Gemma Frontero, Giorgia Nocita, Anna Oliva, Marta Scaramuzzino, Ginevra De Pascalis and Asinat Achcharif. “A huge thank you – underlines the Tabiese club – to the Italbasket girls, who were available with photos, autographs, advice and smiles”.
A difficult day to forget for Olimpia Basket, which until two years ago did not have a women’s sector and which now, thanks to the work of coach Ezio Arduino, can boast a continuously growing group, increasingly close-knit and increasingly committed . In the last 4 days alone, in fact, two other events have involved the pink sector of Olimpia.
Over the weekend the girls played the Cristofaro Memorial in Cuneo, debutants category, placing themselves in third place, behind the very strong teams from Olgiate Comasco and Vado Ligure, beating Luino, ASB Asti and the hosts IMGB Cuneo but above all fighting on everyone the balls in all matches. Excellent performances were also achieved by those who had only started a few weeks ago and the behavior of all the girls was excellent, many of whom were away from their families for the first time. The image of their support for the men’s team and that of the boys’ support for their teammates on the pitch is beautiful.
On Saturday there was time to attend the women’s Serie B match, where they were able to take a photo with the girls from the Granda College of Cuneo, who include among their ranks two acquaintances from the Riviera, the Lo Re sisters, with the happy debut by Cecilia and her first 5 points. For the record, the men’s team also placed third, demonstrating a more dynamic and effective game than teams like Pegli, Cuneo, Savigliano, Farigliano and Olgiate and stopping only in front of two very strong teams with Pol.Ma.Go. and Luino, capable of troubling Olimpia Milano in the championship too.
No rest on Monday for Francesca Vitale and Greta Piccone, Olimpia athletes selected by the Italian Basketball Federation for the ‘Academy’ project for training at the Alassio arena under the eyes of the national youth team coach Marco Corsolini and former player Roberto Brunamonti. In short, a pink dream come true for both the girls and Olimpia. The club of Arma, Taggia and now also Sanremo, founded in the seventies by a group of girls from the Tabia parish, can finally talk about women’s basketball too.
