The former international professional and captain of the Panthers basketball version, officially applied for the presidency of the Gabonese Basketball Federation (FEGABAB), during a press conference on Tuesday in Libreville. To win the election scheduled for December 21, Stéphane Lasme can count on the support of a major running mate, Géraldine Robert, another emblematic figure of Gabonese basketball, former international professional and captain of the women’s basketball panthers.
In his project entitled ”Measurement’, ”The bringer of change” in the Omyènè language, Stéphane Lasme is launching into the race for the presidency of the FEGABAB, with a program based on five (5) priority axes which are: the Development of women’s basketball, the Improvement of infrastructures and leagues, the Professionalization of basketball, training of young talents and executives, as well as regional and international integration, he said.
“The country needs me, the country needs this talent”said Stéphane Lasme in substance, to justify this candidacy which marks a logical continuity and a significant turning point in his career; after having shone on the American and European courts and marked the history of Gabonese basketball. Through this candidacy, Lasme positions itself as a key player in the development of national basketball.
The first Gabonese to play in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors, Stéphane Lasme aspires to put his experience at the service of young Gabonese talents. “One of the things I’ve learned throughout my career is that nothing is easy. At home, we can see you as a star, but where you are yourself, you know that the most important thing is to show that things are possible”explained the candidate for the presidency of FEGABAB, who underlined the importance of giving benchmarks to new generations.
Born on December 17, 1982 in Port-gentil, Stéphane Lasme began his career at Raponda Walker high school in Port-gentil before playing for Anges ABC in Libreville. He then moved to the United States, to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he was named the best player and best defenseman in the Atlantic Ten Conference in his first season.
He then played for prestigious clubs such as the Golden State Warriors and Galatasaray in Europe, where he finished his professional career. Stéphane Lasme presents himself as a candidate who is both experienced and passionate, ready to take up the challenge of presidency of FEGABAB, one month before the election.
The Gabonese Basketball Federation (FEGABAB) is currently chaired by Willy Conrad Asséko, in office since 2020.
