Feyenoord Injury Update: Key Players Affected and Impact on Upcoming Matches

Feyenoord is plagued by injuries. For example, it was announced on Monday that striker Ayase Ueda will no longer play in 2024. Who are currently injured at Feyenoord and when can we expect them back on the field?

Ayase Ueda, expected back: FC Utrecht home, January 2025.
As announced yesterday, the Japanese striker will no longer play for Feyenoord in 2024. Ueda was already struggling with his fitness before the match against Ajax, which meant he had to miss Utrecht. He reached the Classic, but that seems to have cost Feyenoord dearly. The Japanese had to leave after half an hour of play with a hamstring injury. Too fast on the field? Feyenoord currently only has acquisition Julian Carranza left of its three strikers. Ibrahim Osman and youth exponent Zepiqueno Redmond can also handle it. The latter was on the bench for the first time last weekend against AZ.

Quilindschy Hartman, expected back: FC Utrecht-home, January 2025.
Hartman seriously injured his knee at home against FC Utrecht last year, after which he faced a long rehabilitation process. The left back was missed by the Rotterdam team at the start of this season. Little by little, the loss becomes more bearable due to Hugo Bueno playing better and better. However, Hartman is eager to reclaim his place in the team. The left back trains with a ball every now and then and is aiming for a return shortly after the winter break. He wants to play the match in which things went wrong for him: FC Utrecht at home on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Santiago Gimenez, expected back: Manchester City away, end of November.
Striker number two in the sickbay at Feyenoord. The Mexican top scorer also suffered an upper leg injury in the match against NAC Breda on September 22. While Ueda also had to drop out, the return of ‘Santi’ seems to be getting closer. The striker himself indicated that he was aiming for the match against Manchester City. That match is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26.

Calvin Stengs, expected back: Salzburg home, Wednesday.
The creative brain of Feyenoord, as some describe him. His name is often mentioned when things are going badly at Feyenoord. Stengs is recovering from an operation on his knee, which he suffered during the match against Sparta on Sunday, August 25. Previously, reports trickled through that Feyenoord’s number 10 was aiming for a return to the Classic, but due to a (small) setback in his recovery, this turned out to be unfeasible. It is positive that Stengs already regularly trains with the group. The club told AD that it is aiming for a return after the upcoming international break. The first option is Saturday, November 23, at home against SC Heerenveen. However, Sinclair Bischop reports something different today on X. According to the analyst, Stengs is training in the run-up to the meeting with Salzburg and he may even be in the selection!

Antoni Milambo, expected back: Heerenveen home, mid-November.
While things were a bit difficult in his first appearances, which is not surprising in a difficult team, the great talent that Milambo was attributed seems to have finally emerged in recent weeks. In the Champions League he takes Feyenoord by the hand with his goals against Girona and Benfica and he also scores in the competition. The midfielder suddenly plays many games in a short time, something that may also be the cause of his current injury. A few weeks ago he had to leave the Jong Oranje camp due to illness and the midfielder is currently sidelined with a likely knee injury. Milambo may not be back until after the international break.

Justin Bijlow, expected back: Heerenveen home, mid-November.

A painful last minute addition to this overview… Feyenoord has just announced that goalkeeper Justin Bijlow is not fit enough to start against Salzburg. The meeting in and against Almere next weekend also comes too early for him. The injury does not seem serious in nature, but it is of course very sad. This is because he had just regained his place under the crossbar against AZ. That was at the expense of Timon Wellenreuther. The German will be back in action tomorrow.
