Football: Andrés Iniesta invests in a Danish third division club

A little over a month after officially announcing his retirement, Andrés Iniesta is back near the football fields. The former FC Barcelona player, through his company Never Say Never (NSN), became the majority shareholder of a Danish third division club, FC Helsingør (the club from the town of Elsinore in French, located about fifty kilometers north of Copenhagen.

The local media echoed this arrival of the 2010 world champion among the owners of the club, which also includes the Swiss company Stoneweg, based in Geneva. “We started working with FC Helsingør because they are an incredibly exciting club, with excellent facilities, a lot of good people within the club and those around it, and who have the potential to become an important part of Danish football,” said the former player in comments reported by Helsingor Dagblad.

In a press release published this Thursday, November 14, the club formalizes the arrival of these “new forces”. “FC Helsingør begins a new chapter,” we read. An alliance between NSN and Stoneweg aimed at driving growth in sports and entertainment will now benefit the club. (…) NSN and Stoneweg will work together as part of the FC Helsingør management team to develop the club in all areas and promote the development of young players through the club’s academy. »

Iniesta wants to bring “his experience”

“After having been a professional player, I am very motivated to start this new phase of my life, bringing my experience to a club like FC Helsingør, the first project of an exciting alliance between NSN and Stoneweg, thus delivering the player in comments reported by the club. It’s a great opportunity to experience football in a different way. »

It’s no surprise to see Andres Iniesta getting involved in the world of football. When formalizing his retirement, the Spaniard expressed in particular his wish to soon become a coach. “I can’t stay away from football, it’s my life and it will continue to be my life. Now I have to continue training, I’m getting my coaching diploma and that’s the next step, he explained. I will try to come back to do a big job, but it will not be running behind the ball, but from another place. » FC Helsingør currently occupies 7th place in the D3 championship in Denmark.
