Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were most recently hit. The two football superstars from the Kansas City Chiefs were victims of burglars. Burglars broke into their properties on two consecutive days before and on match day. The mysterious series of burglaries is now preoccupying the NFL.
Now the league, in collaboration with the FBI, has sent a security alert to its teams. According to US media, the NFL advised teams that the homes of professional athletes from various leagues had become “increasingly the target of break-ins by organized and sophisticated groups.” Mahomes and Taylor Swift’s friend Kelce were burglarized in October.
According to US media, the FBI is said to have informed the NFL about security precautions last week. Players should not report on social media when they leave their house or show expensive items. The thieves are said to have concentrated on houses in remote areas and primarily searched bedrooms and wardrobes.
Investigations are ongoing
Police said that Mahomes’ property, which is located in a gated community about 45 kilometers south of Kansas City, was broken into on October 6th. There were no details as the investigation is still ongoing. “It’s obviously frustrating and disappointing,” said Mahomes: “I can’t talk about details because the investigation is still ongoing. But of course that’s something you wouldn’t wish on anyone.” The father of the family didn’t want to comment on whether anyone was in the house at the time of the break-in.
The damage to teammate Kelce totals $21,000, including $20,000 in cash. The 1,440-square-foot home features a wine cellar, a backyard pool and a six-car garage.
