Former French international Wissam Ben Yedder has been sentenced to two years in prison for sexual violence. The verdict was announced on Tuesday afternoon; the perpetrator himself was not present. The French news agency AFP reported this from the court in Nice. The attack therefore occurred in September.
The broadcaster France Bleu and the newspaper “Le Monde” reported that Ben Yedder was said to have drunkenly brought a 23-year-old woman into his car in a parking lot. He had cocaine and a bottle of whiskey in his car. “I was afraid that he would get upset,” Le Monde quoted the woman as saying.
Ben Yedder then drove her to his place, finally touched her in the car and masturbated himself before the woman managed to get out of the car. The victim first hid behind a trash can before fleeing to friends and then to a family member’s house to file a report.
The former AS Monaco captain was also reportedly convicted of drunk driving. The sports newspaper “L’Équipe” wrote that Ben Yedder admitted this offense in court. The 34-year-old does not claim to have remembered a sexual assault. The penalty also includes the obligation to provide medical care and compensation to the victim in the amount of 6,500 euros. In addition, there is a fine of 5,000 euros and a six-month driving license suspension.
Further procedures
And Ben Yedder faces further trouble. Another woman accuses the footballer of rape at a party in the summer of 2023. The case is still under investigation. The accused in this case is charged with “rape, attempted rape and sexual assault,” as is his younger brother Sabri Ben Yedder.
In addition, Ben Yedder, who was convicted of tax evasion in Spain, will have to appear in court again at the end of December. This time because of psychological violence against his wife as part of divorce proceedings that have been ongoing since last year.
