Great story for women’s football. Australian star striker from Chelsea Sam Kerr (31) and his wife Kristie Mewis (33), American midfielder from West Ham, are expecting a happy event. The two players announced on Instagram the arrival of their first child in 2025, notably revealing an ultrasound.
“Congratulations to Kristie and her partner Sam who have announced that they are expecting their first child,” rejoiced the West Ham club, before doing the same a few hours later for their Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek, who is expecting as for him a third child.
The two women formalized their relationship in 2021, and even got engaged at the end of 2023. Sam Kerr, who extended her contract this summer until 2026, has not played a single minute since her serious knee injury in January. Kristie Mewis, who will carry the child, joined West Ham last December after impressing with Gotham FC in New Jersey (USA).
Sam Kerr is still charged by British courts for racially motivated contempt of a police officer in the United Kingdom in March 2024. The Australian international, who has pleaded not guilty, will appear in court in February 2025.
