Versailles, 10th in National, finally has its new coach. As expected, it is indeed Jordan Gonzalez, 34, who led his last match with the Lyon U 19s on Sunday against Dijon (4-3). Versailles and Lyon definitively reached an agreement at the start of the week.
Arriving this Wednesday in Versailles, Jordan Gonzalez will lead his first session on Thursday and will therefore be on the bench on Saturday in Canet-en-Roussillon (N3) for the 7th round of the Coupe de France. He will work with the existing staff including Jérémy Clément, who becomes assistant again after having taken over as interim since the ousting of Jean-Luc Vasseur on October 3 with a record of 2 victories, 2 draws, 1 defeat.
First choice of the management of Versailles, Jordan Gonzalez was preferred to better-known technicians like Zoumana Camara, Sébastien Bichard, Gaël Clichy or Joao Fonseca. But his profile, his speech and his philosophy have therefore seduced the Versailles staff who now wish to sign up for the long term with a coach after having “consumed” four (Peyrelade, Vignal, Vasseur, Clément) since June 2023 and the takeover by Alexandre Mulliez.
A fine of 7,500 euros per match
Jordan Gonzalez started coaching very early, at the age of 18, in clubs in the Lyon region (Givors, Cascol, FC Lyon, Lyon Duchère). It was at the age of 31 that he became head coach at Lyon Duchère, in N2. He then joined Bourg-en-Bresse (N2) which he left in January 2024 for the Lyon training center, through Pierre Sage.
Under contract for another 3 years at OL, he chose to seize the opportunity of Versailles in National, rather than continuing with the young people. This year he is passing his BEFF (football trainer certificate) and does not hold the BEPF (professional football trainer certificate), a diploma necessary to coach in the National.
Versailles will therefore have to pay a fine of 7,500 euros per match. A significant amount but which clearly shows the club’s desire to work with him.
