In the second division Bundesliga, despite an improvement compared to previous games, the Gelsenkirchen team did not get beyond a goalless draw at newly promoted SSV Ulm. It was the fourth competitive game in which van Wonderen was on the sidelines. Both teams remain in the bottom third of the table.
In front of 17,400 spectators, the weakened Schalke team, who were eliminated in the second round of the DFB Cup in Augsburg on Tuesday, had their best phase between the 25th and 35th minutes. In the final phase, substitute Amin Younes also missed a double opportunity. With combined forces, the Ulm defense prevented the late goal (88th). Nevertheless, it was a weak performance that Schalke gave to the newly promoted team.
But the SSV had the better chances throughout the game. After a quarter of an hour, Maurice Krattenmacher initially failed to hit the crossbar from a distance, and after the break, the overall strong goalkeeper Justin Heekeren saved against Ulm’s most noticeable offensive player (53′).
Preußen Münster – Fortuna Dusseldorf 1-0
Second division leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf have made a mistake again and are in danger of completely falling out of the promotion ranks on the eleventh matchday. At the previous penultimate Preußen Münster, Daniel Thioune’s team suffered their second defeat in a row with a score of 0:1 (0:1) and the third from the last four games. Jano ter Horst (26th minute) secured an important three points for the promoted team.
With their second win of the season, coach Sascha Hildmann’s team jumped to a non-relegation spot for the time being. Fortuna will remain at the top of the table at least until Saturday, but can be overtaken by three teams at the weekend.
The previous week, Fortuna had already lost unnecessarily 3:4 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and missed out on breaking away in the table. As against the Palatinate, Düsseldorf was the better team in Münster, but again made a decisive mistake in defense. Prussia keeper Johannes Schenk also had a really strong day.
