Football: Vinicius still forgotten… Bellingham named best player in the Spanish championship

He had the best season of his career, and yet individual rewards are hard to come by. Already deprived of the Golden Ball in favor of Rodri, the Brazilian Vinicius Junior saw the title of best player in last season’s Spanish championship slip through his hands to regain those of his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham.

The English midfielder was voted best player in La Liga for the 2023-2024 season by the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE). Author of 19 goals and five assists in 28 matches, the 21-year-old certainly did not steal his trophy as he greatly contributed to Real’s championship victory.

Only one individual trophy for Vinicius

“Thank you very much for electing me as an AFE player last season, I am very proud,” the principal concerned soberly reacted in a video. Bellingham was absent from the ceremony this Monday evening in Madrid since his club is preparing a shock against Liverpool this Wednesday in the Champions League (9 p.m.).

This award could, like the Golden Ball, have gone to Vinicius Junior but his 15 goals and 6 assists in 26 games last season carried less weight. The Brazilian, injured on Sunday November 24 in his hamstring and absent for several weeks, will therefore have to be content after an exceptional 2023-2024 season with a single title of best player in the Champions League.
