Fourth win in a row over Zverev

Fritz, fifth in the world rankings, defeated Tokyo Olympic champion Zverev in the twelfth duel for the seventh time or fourth time en suite.

This year the American had already had the upper hand against the world number two of the same age at Wimbledon and at the US Open.

“It was tough in the second and third sets. Things can always turn around very quickly against Sascha. But I just trust my game and my level at the moment, even against the top opponents,” said Fritz.

The right-hander is the first American in the final of the final tournament of the best eight players of the season since James Blake in 2006.
