In the final of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, the American Coco Gauff and the Chinese Zheng Qinwen will face each other. Both will prevail in two sets in the semi-finals on Friday.
Gauff shows a strong performance against world number one Aryna Sabalenka. With four breaks in a row she takes the second set against the Belarusian and wins 7:6(4), 6:3. Zheng convinced in her semi-final with a 6:3, 7:5 against the Czech Barbora Krejcikova.
The 22-year-old is crowning her best season to date, in which she reached a Grand Slam final (Australian Open) for the first time and became Olympic champion in Paris. Zheng is only the second Chinese woman to reach the final of the WTA Finals. Before her, only Li Na had achieved this. She lost to Serena Williams in Istanbul in 2013.
Now there is another Chinese-American duel. The triumph would be a first for both players.
