Kavalashvili was born in 1971 in Tbilisi. He began his football career with the Lokomotiv Tbilisi team, then moved to Dynamo Tbilisi, then to Spartak Alania in Vladikavkaz, where he won the Russian League championship. In 1998, he became champion of the Swiss League with the “Grasoper” club in Zurich, and played more than 40 matches with the Georgian national team.
