The German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is investigating a spectator.
During the DFB Cup match against FC St. Pauli last Tuesday, which Leipzig won 4-2, a fan is said to have shown the so-called Hitler salute. The Bild newspaper first reported this. A visitor was quickly identified as a suspect, according to the club, which is cooperating with the police. “RB Leipzig also encourages all witnesses to the incident to report it.”
According to RB, all available video material from the surveillance cameras has already been evaluated, but without making it possible to unequivocally clarify the events. The club handed over all the material to the police.
The perpetrator is being sought
This is investigating the use of license plates of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations. The person concerned was asked to comment and summoned under threat of a nationwide stadium ban.
RB has supported campaigns for diversity and tolerance on several occasions in the past. In the past, the club has responded consistently to similar incidents, most recently with racist comments in the U19 team in January. RB immediately parted ways with players.
“RB Leipzig takes a clear stand against racism, xenophobia, discrimination and anti-Semitism and resolutely opposes unconstitutional and inhumane behavior,” the club said.
