Former fencing world champion Max Hartung becomes a board member of the German Sports Aid Foundation. The 35-year-old will take over the newly created board position from February 15, 2025, including responsibility for communications. Together with Karin Orgeldinger and Karsten Petry, he will form the new management team. The contracts of the two on the board were extended by four years as of November 1st, according to a statement.
Hartung was a four-time European champion, team world champion and is a multiple Olympian in saber fencing. Parallel to his sports career, he was also involved in sports politics: he was chairman of the athletes’ commission in the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and founding president of the Athletes Germany Association, which advocates for the interests of German athletes. “Taking on the board position at Sporthilfe fills me with pride,” said Hartung: “I absolutely identify with the values of Sporthilfe and know the organization as a sponsor and as a former member of the supervisory board.” Christian Seifert, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sporthilfe, said that Hartung was “a stroke of luck for Sporthilfe”.
