Goodbye Caio, pillar of baseball

The world of sport, in particular that of Polesine baseball, is in mourning. Caio Piva, one of the pioneers of baseball in Polesine, passed away yesterday. Having turned 76 last September 15, Caio Piva leaves behind his wife and two children Claudia and Enrico, who inherited the tire dealer business in Badia Polesine from their father.

And in Badia Caio Piva was well known for his lively and generous manner which have always characterized his sympathy.

However, Piva was also one of the pioneers of baseball in Rovigo, a passion that he then brought to his Badia where he founded the Drunk Balls amateur team with which he continued to play, trying to pass on his passion to young people.

This is remembered by Lucio Taschin, not only as president of the provincial CONI but also as a real one deus ex machina of Polesine baseball. “I was lucky enough to know Caio since my first steps in the world of baseball. She was always a jovial person with whom we could talk about anything. He was one of the fathers of baseball in Rovig – continues Taschin – we are talking about the dawn of this sport in our city and it is also thanks to him that this discipline has now taken hold. Baseball was a real passion for him which also led to Badia Polesine where he founded an amateur team so that everyone could get closer to bat and run. I am left with the memory of an exquisite, delightful person and a point of reference for our local baseball. She was always a constructive person and it was with great sadness that I learned the news of her passing.”
