WTA Finals… 2-1 win over Jeong Chin-won
Largest winning prize money in WTA Tour history
Coco Goff (3rd place, USA), who won the final match of the 2024 season of the Women’s Professional Tennis (WTA) Tour, received $4.805 million (approximately 6.72 billion won) in prize money.
Goff lost 2 to 1 (3 to 6) against Zheng Qinwen (7th place, China) in a close match for 3 hours and 4 minutes in the singles final on the last day of the WTA Finals (total prize money of $15.25 million) held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on the 9th (local time). They won a come-from-behind victory (6 to 4, 7 to 6). The prize money Goff received for winning this tournament is the largest ever on the WTA Tour.
Goff, born in 2004, won this day and became the youngest Finals champion in 20 years since Maria Sharapova (Russia), who won the competition at the age of 17 in 2004. She is also the first American player to win this competition in 10 years since Serena Williams in 2014.
Goff, who reached the top of the U.S. Open last year, is particularly strong when it comes to reaching the singles finals of WTA Tour or higher level tournaments. The overall record is 9 wins and 1 loss. The only final loss was at the 2022 French Open, where Lee lost the championship to Sibion Tech (2nd place, Poland).
