Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) has undertaken a meaningful project to draw attention to increasing forest fires and climate change. The launch of the project, which will be carried out in cooperation with TBF and the General Directorate of Forestry of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, was held with the participation of TBF President Hidayet Türkoğlu, General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey and managers of both institutions.

Turkish Basketball Federation President Hidayet Türkoğlu, who started his speech by saying that they are proud as a federation, said, “Today, we are proud to share with you the ‘Every Basket is a Sapling’ project for the unifying power of sports and love of nature. With this collaboration, Turkish Basketball Federation, we aim to increase our country’s forest assets and leave a legacy to the future. Approximately 350 thousand points to be scored throughout the season in our 9 leagues will meet nature as saplings. One of the most important sources of inspiration for our project was the fight against forest fires that have increased in recent years and the green areas that we needed to restore to nature. With this project, we aim to contribute to the reforestation of areas damaged by fires and at the same time raise awareness about climate change. We will continue to work for a livable world together. “I would like to thank everyone who contributed and wish them good luck,” he said.
We are trying to increase forest availability
Speaking at the ceremony, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey said, “Today is a really important day for us. General Directorate of Forestry is an institution that has been carrying out afforestation activities and protecting our forests for approximately 185 years in order to increase and develop our country’s forest assets and transfer them to future generations in a healthier way. In this process, we aim to cooperate with many different institutions through campaigns. With the ‘Every Basket Is a Sapling’ protocol that we will sign today, we will be supporting our ‘Breathing for the Future’ campaign, which we started in 2019, with new saplings. For this reason, I would like to thank our federation president and its valuable members for their sensitivity. Thus, we will plant a sapling for every basket scored in the matches played in all leagues in Turkey. At the end of the year, we will send a certificate to each of our clubs. If our Federation President approves, we will plant 5 saplings for every basket scored in the national matches. “I hope our campaign will be auspicious for everyone,” he said.
