Guatemala shone at the 2024 WKC World Martial Arts Championship

The Guatemalan delegation that participated in the WKC World Martial Arts Championship 2024 held in Portugal he returned with a harvest of more than 50 medals.

In the picturesque city of Albufeira, Portugal, a true sports festival took place from October 26 to November 1, 2024, during the WKC World Championship (World Karate and Kickboxing Commission). This event brought together the best athletes in the world, who competed with passion and dedication in search of glory.

The Guatemalan delegation, made up of 24 talented athletes, shone with its own light by winning an extraordinary harvest of 51 medals: 21 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze, an achievement that left an indelible mark on the history of national sports. Under the expert guidance of sensei Luis Moralesseventh Dan black belt in Kenpo Karate, the team competed with courage and discipline, always accompanied by the unwavering support of their leader, who was present at each presentation to encourage and direct the Guatemalans on their way to the podium.

Most notable winners in the World Cup in Portugal

According to WKC Guatemala, they are the most outstanding athletes who won gold medals in the World Championship 2024 in Portugal:

  • Maria Andrée Robles: 8 years old, María Andrée competed in older categories, reaching four gold medals in points combat in the -35 kilogram categories: creative kata with weapons, cover freestyle y open weight.
  • Edgar Cordoba: On his return to world competition after two years of retirement, he won six gold medals, one silver and one bronze, establishing himself as one of the delegation’s greatest exponents.
  • Luis Jorge Morales: winner of a gold medal in extreme style forms and two silver medals in freestyle forms and points combat -30 kilograms.
  • Emiliano Castillo: won two gold medals in points combat -60 kg and in Chin saida, in addition to a silver medal in open weight.
  • Santiago Tax Chang: Won the individual category for the third consecutive year, achieving a gold medal. In addition, he won a silver medal in open weight and a bronze medal in team competitions.
  • Additionally, the other gold medalists are: Luis Diaz in combat at points -55 kilograms; Heidi Kaehler in light contact in the +46 years category, and Luis Chavez in the -75 kilogram category.
