Last Friday, during the general assembly of the Judo Club Hazebrouckois (JCH), Gaël Duhamel, sports assistant, gave an update on the new dojo. The work to transform the Bernadette room into a solidarity dojo is practically complete. The showers and toilets will be permanently installed by the end of the month, then it will be time for cleaning and the installation of a new boiler.
« The goal is to be ready for the Christmas holidays in order to move your equipment to the new dojo. You will be able to resume your classes there at the beginning of January, but we are not a week away », declared the elected official. He also wanted to point out that France Judo will own the dojo for five years, the duration of the convention. But also that the municipality does not have control over the work which will amount to around €180,000, 80% of which financed by France Judo and the National Sports Agency.
“It’s a day, a club”
The Hazebrouck Judo club will have to share the new dojo and time slots with Flandres Judo Hazebrouck. “ On this subject, France Judo was rather direct in saying: “It’s one day, one club, period,” explains Gaël Duhamel. Adding: “ There have already been some arrangements and if slots were not occupied, we will see later. The objective is also that clubs can intervene with schools by bringing them to the dojo, encouraging young people to discover the practice of judo. The Federation estimates that the 1,000 Dojos project should bring you new members and that with this income, you will be able to finance the remaining 20% of the project. »
For its part, the JCH deplored the absence of underlay, to absorb violent shocks during projections and falls, under the tatami mats of the new dojo. “ The regional manager of the operation made me understand that this equipment was not financed in the project. He kindly sent me a quote of €25,000 », replied the sports assistant, annoyed. Finally, the new dojo should retain the name of Pierre Dehondt, emblematic figure of Hazebrouck judo, who died in 2009. The proposal will be made to this effect by the municipality.
A positive outcome for the JCH
The Hazebrouckois Judo Club (JCH), which beyond teaching judo also provides ju-jitsu and taiso classes, has good results. The club has practically 140 members, the accounts are balanced and several young people from the club shone during the twenty competitions in which they were involved, both at the departmental and regional level. The young judokate Pénélope Alavoine even competed in the French championships, in the junior 1st year category, in Villebon-sur-Yvette in Yvelines last March.
Around the technical director Pascal Roussel, the courses are provided by Franck Declerck and Nassim Cheraitia. Cyril Gobert, the president, and Caroline Bouchez, the secretary, will also begin training as an assistant professor. Aiming above all to be a family and friendly club, the JCH will repeat most of the events which met with some success this year for 2025 (the parent-child meeting in May, the internal competition in April, the club party in June, ju-jitsu courses in July and taiso sessions for Pink October).
