Two athletes and a coach, all table tennis players, from the province of Holguín participated on behalf of Cuba in the Pan American Games for the Deaf (PANAMDES), which were developed in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Information from Alexander Moreno Hernández, who for several years was provincial commissioner of this discipline, specifies that the PANAMDES event was attended by Dianka Montero and Alexander Lobaina from Holguín, both under the guidance of the prominent coach Jorge Luis Vega Guerrero.
Individually, Dianka was the best performer with two silver medals, one in the single and another in the double for women along with Yunisleidis Ortiz, in addition to a bronze in the mixed event, which she formed a pair with Yeandri Alcolea.
In the case of Lobaina, he joined forces with Alcolea in the male double and took over a tanned metal. Both competitors were eliminated in the individual competition.
The Cuban delegation in PANAMDES won 22 medals, including four titles won by the multiple champion in deaf Olympics Suslaydi Girat and Héctor Daniel Pérez, two per capita.

Led by the extraclass Suslaidy Girat, Cuba will participate in the VI Pan American Deaf Canoe Games 2024 that will be hosted by the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul from November 10 to 17.
Athletes from 17 nations will compete in 12 disciplines, indicates the official website of the event.
“Cuba will participate in chess, athletics, karate do, taekwondo and table tennis,” he told JITDouglas Andux, methodologist at the Department for People with Disabilities at Inder.
There will also be action in basketball, football, swimming, volleyball, judo, badminton, cycling and bowling.
