It will arrive on December 11th Meta Quest 3 and 3S a new game called Home Sportsa title that, from aesthetics to soundtrack, seems like a clone of Wii Sports (or Nintendo Switch Sports, for the younger ones), but for the mixed reality. This game is a clear attempt by Meta to replicate the success of the famous sports series Nintendobased on intuitive motion controls.
Home Sports offers several mini-games, including hockeybadminton, pickleball, mini-golf e bowlingjust like Nintendo’s simplistic series. It is possible to play both single player and multiplayer, with theavatar Meta which represents the player during matches. According to Meta, the game is able to adapt to the available play space, but also supports the Quest’s “boundaryless” mode for those who have access to larger, more open spaces.
While Home Sports is clearly a clone of Nintendo’s Sports series, there’s no denying that the idea is intriguing. Of course, it will be difficult to replicate the crucial component of a group of people holding Wii Remotes and enjoying watching each other fail miserably at bowling. However, if developer Resolution Games has managed to correctly capture the feel of the original games and you have enough headsets at your disposal, Home Sports could prove to be an immersive experience.
A challenge to Nintendo’s dominance
Con Home Sports, Meta aims to challenge the dominance of Nintendo in the field of sports games casual games based on motion controls. The series Wii Sports was a huge success, helping to make the Wii console a mass phenomenon. Now, Meta seeks to replicate that winning formula in the mixed reality space, banking on the growing popularity of Quest headsets.
We have to see if Home Sports will be able to make its way into the hearts of players as Wii Sports did in its time. However, if Meta manages to offer a fun and engaging experience, it could carve out an interesting niche in the gaming market VR/MR games.
