The German national ice hockey team suffered a defeat at the Germany Cup in Landshut at the start of the new season. The team of national coach Harold Kreis lost the first test on the way to the 2025 World Cup in Sweden and Denmark against Denmark after a penalty shootout with 5:6 (4:3, 1:1, 0:1, 0:0, 0:1). Justin Schütz (9th), Daniel Schmölz (12th, 18th), returnee Patrick Hager (19th) and Stefan Loibl (33rd) via short-hander scored the goals for the selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). Nick Olesen (3rd, 24th, 46th), who was credited with an own goal from Andreas Eder, Jakob Schmidt-Svejstrup (9th) and David Madsen (9th) were successful for Denmark. Olesen also shone in the penalty shootout with two goals from two attempts.
On Saturday at 6 p.m. the DEB selection will face Slovakia in the second game, the other opponent is Austria on Sunday.
