The American tennis player Taylor Fritz (5th) gave the surprise, eliminated one of the favorites to win the title, the German Alexander Zverev (2nd), and entered the final of the ATP Finals. His rival will come from the winner between the Italian Jannik Sinner (1st) and the Norwegian Casper Ruud (7th).
Fritz won a triumph, in a complicated duel, 6-3, 3-6 and 7-6 (3) in a match that lasted two hours and 21 minutes.
Zverev – who had already won the tournament in 2018 and 2021 – could do nothing in the first set, where the American managed to break the world number two’s serve and took a 4-2 lead. The German ended up losing 6-3, marking the first time that Sascha lost a serve in four matches in this competition.
Already reaching the second set, he was able to raise a 15-40 at a time where Fritz was ahead 4-3.
In the third set, both tennis players began to attack each other’s services more. The American was aggressive and careful when serving, in order not to give the German an advantage.
It was there when they reached 5-5, where the Californian canceled the two advantages that the German could have had. In this way, Fritz won 7-6 (3) in the tie break.
This Sunday, the American will play his fifth final of the year: Delray Beach, Eastbourne, New York, Munich and, now, Turin. In the first two tournaments he managed to win the title.
With the victory, Fritz became the first American tennis player to reach the finals of the Masters Tournament and the US Open. At the same time, if he becomes champion at the ATP Finals, he could be the first tennis player who was not born in Europe to win it.

The last time this had happened was in 2005, with Argentine David Nalbandian winning the title, beating Swiss Roger Federer in an unforgettable final after overcoming a two-set deficit.
