In Orne, the tribute of this family of artists for one of its missing members

“He was the one who transmitted the virus to the family. » The emotion is palpable for Catherine Degrenne when she talks about her brother Philippe, who died suddenly last year. Since his disappearance, “many of his paintings remain”, but above all, a passion which continues within the family originating from Tinchebray (Orne).

Late in life, Catherine made painting her profession and even gives lessons in Frênes. His nephews, Raphaël and Johann, the sons of Philippe, also devote themselves to creations : one working with wood, the other stained glass.

A family of artists who pay tribute

As a common tribute, for their brother or their dad, a exposition is organized at the médi@tech Sylvia & Hubert Bassot, from November 30, 2024 au January 11, 2025.

Within the cultural place, the figurative works of Philippe will be associated with those of the three other members of the family. Realistic paintings by Catherine, furniture made by Raphaël, who trained as a cabinetmaker, and stained glass decorated by Johann…

We will bring around fifteen paintings by Philippe, as well as around ten productions each, or around 50 pieces in total.

All creations will be offered for sale“except those of Philippe, because they are too symbolic for us”, affirms Catherine, supplemented by her nephew Raphaël: “this will be the only opportunity to see his paintings: no other exposure is not planned at the moment.

“Philippe was born with a pencil in his hands”

“Philippe has always drawn, he was born with a pencil in his hands. At his place it was something innate and totally self-taught”, continues Catherine, presenting one of her brother’s flagship paintings, a triptych to the maritime landscape.

Aware that art constitutes “a real link” for these children of Tinchebray, Josette Porquet, mayor of the town, and Fabienne Dupré, head of medi@tech, are “very happy to welcome this strong exhibition of sense “. Through his paintingsPhilippe continues to live, surrounded by his family forever.
