Asunción, IP Agency.-Deportivo San José beat Colonias Gold 73 to 71 at the León Coundou and went 2-0 in the final series for the title of the National Basketball League.
The second game of the Clausura Tournament finals needed five more minutes to find out its winner. In overtime, after equaling at 66 at the end of the fourth quarter, Celeste made fewer errors and knew how to close the game in the best way to take the second point in the series.
The game started with two teams on different syncs. San José had a hard time getting started, slow in the transfer and almost lacking dynamism, they could not face their rival who showed exactly the opposite. In that period, Colonias knew how to take the lead on the scoreboard thanks to good defense and, mainly, three-point successes. Four almost consecutive triples at the close of the first quarter gave the visitors a 9-point lead: 26-17.
By the second quarter the owner of the house woke up. With Ramón “Bebencho” Sánchez from Pilar as his banner, he began to discount the disadvantage and get closer to the Aurinegro team on the scoreboard. On the other side, the Colombian Andrés Valencia appeared with some three-point bomb every time San José appeared so that his team always remained on top until the end of this period. Thus, with Colonias up by 4 (40-36), the first part of the match ended.
Already in the complementary stage, San José took advantage of the emotional momentum and maintained the intensity to overcome and surpass its rival on the scoreboard; something that he had not achieved since the first minutes of the game. Their positive streak continued and that collective functioning that we had seen on Monday, in Game 1, appeared again. Colonias, for its part, confused its paths in attack and instead of discounting and getting closer, they moved further and further away from their rival on the scoreboard. In this way, with the local team up by 4 (55-51), the third quarter ended.
Already in the last regular period, Celeste’s progressive growth continued and everything seemed to indicate that they would take a comfortable victory. During this period they increased the difference on the scoreboard by betting on the inside game with the North American Dishon Lowery. But Aurinegro showed rebellion and in the last three minutes put together a 13-4 run to lift the game and equalize it; He even had the last ball before the final buzzer of the closing quarter, but Edwin Mijares’ triple was not accurate. Thus, tied at 66 per side, they went to overtime. There, in addition to the rival in front, fatigue also became an obstacle for both teams. As a result, the intensity and scoring dropped significantly and many unforced errors began to appear. In the end, the homeowner prevailed and ended up winning by only a double: 73-71.
In this way, San José adds its second victory in the final series and will have three chances to claim champion. For Colonias there is no tomorrow, they must weigh the home team in the next game and win to extend the definition to a fourth game.
The third final will take place in the south of the country, in the city of Obligado, on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
