Supervisor at Jean Racine college d’Alençon (Orne), sports teacher at theTerrade school and judo teacher at the Damigny club, Gweltaz Leroy died Wednesday November 6, 2024. He had 30 ans.
His sudden disappearance caused a wave of shock among his students and all those who knew him or were around him.
At Racine College, a tribute was paid to him on Friday November 8, 2024 by his fellow teachers and students.
This Saturday morning, it is the Damigny judo club which expresses its sadness, and pays tribute to its devoted teacher.
Black belt at 15
Gweltaz started judo at a very young age alongside his teacher Alberto Ramos. He joined the Damigny judo club in 2015 as a student. A true enthusiast, he had obtained his 1st dan black belt on December 19, 2009, at the age of 15.
During the 2019/2020 season, he prepared his CQP training (professional qualification certificate) with the Normandy Judo League and his entire club team, “to obtain his 2nd dan, on May 13, 2021 and his exam to become a judo teacher in his club,” remembers Nathalie Faveris. Seven students obtained their 1st dan black belts and one student his 2nd dan, alongside him.
Teacher at the Damigny club
Gweltaz Leroy became a teacher at the Damigny judo club on January 1, 2021. “Smiling, caring, attentive, super coach, dedicated, pleasant, extraordinary teacher, loving”, describe him as his students, parents, grandparents , and all the people who surrounded him during his career as a teacher, at the judo club.
Stéphane Faveris, the president, Christian Vannier, the vice-president, Nathalie Faveris, the secretary, Didier Dubu, the treasurer, salute the qualities of Gweltaz’s work, but also “his dedication, his commitment, his respect and his investment in the club”.
The funeral of Gweltaz Leroy will be celebrated, Thursday November 14, at 10 a.m., at the church of Fontenai-les-Louvets, in L’Orée-d’Écouves.
