After the cup game against FC St. Pauli, RB Leipzig received information about an anti-Semitic action in their own stadium. A fan is said to have given the Hitler salute. The club then investigated the person and requested a statement.
RB Leipzig takes action against a spectator after a suspected anti-Semitic incident. During the cup game against FC St. Pauli (4:2), a fan is said to have shown the so-called Hitler salute. “Bild” first reported this.
“The day after the DFB Cup game against FC St. Pauli, RB Leipzig was informed by several fans that a visitor to the game was said to have shown the so-called Hitler salute. A short time later, a viewer submitted a photo to document the incident,” RB told the German Press Agency when asked.
A visitor could be quickly identified as the suspected perpetrator using “an additional description of the person and seat.” All available video material from the surveillance cameras has already been evaluated, but without providing a clear explanation of what happened, it said.
RB demands a statement and threatens to ban the stadium
RB Leipzig has handed over all of the available material to the police and is supporting further investigations. “RB Leipzig also encourages all witnesses to the incident to report the incident.” The person concerned was asked to comment and summoned at short notice under threat of a nationwide stadium ban. RB recently supported several nationwide campaigns for diversity and tolerance.
In the past, the club has reacted consistently to similar incidents, such as racist comments in January in their own U19 team. RB immediately separated from the players. “RB Leipzig takes a clear stance against racism, xenophobia, discrimination and anti-Semitism and resolutely opposes unconstitutional and inhumane behavior,” the club said.
