Proving to be the best from the opening day, the players from the Inmaculada Educational Unit of Machala won the title of the third edition of the FEBAES América U-16 Women’s Basketball Championship 2024, on the well-appointed field of the Coliseo Mayor Jefferson Pérez.
The last schedule was held last weekend.
The title match was called an international final. Since the Orenses disputed the first place with the representatives of the Palmarés school, who came from Chile.
Both quintets demonstrated their status as finalists, but the Ecuadorian team showed their dominance, and in the definition of the four sets, they surpassed their rival by a score of 73 to 53.
Juan Sánchez, coordinator of the sporting event and vice president of the FEBAES Américas organization, commented that the tournament brought together several of the best school athletes in the city.
The intention of the basketball leaders is to organize championships in selective mode in 2025 to define the best.
“Chile is the base of this tournament, and for the first time this event was held outside that country. We want the championship to gain strength little by little. Initially, the participation of eight casts was established. However, a cast withdrew prior to the games. Finally, it was organized with seven educational units,” declared Sánchez, Azuaya’s glory of basketball, an experienced coach in the province.

As part of the final day, the cast that won the bronze medal was also defined. On this occasion, it was the cast of the Claretiano school from Peru, which reached third place.
The representatives of the neighboring country achieved a 55-41 victory against the La Asunción Educational Unit.
While fifth place was obtained by the Sor Teresa Valse Educational Unit. The Cuenca institution defeated the Santo Domingo de Guzmán quintet 57 to 55. Seventh place went to the Salesian Technical Educational Unit.
“The idea is to strengthen student sports, and what could be better with this type of championships. We will try to have this same tournament held next year in the city, but first we will plan a fair, selectively,” Sańchez clarified.
The basket sport fair was also part of the Centennial celebrations of the Azuay Sports Federation (FDA). Seven quintets of delegations from: Chile, Peru and various other parts of the country competed.
