Italian Bregoli becomes national coach of the German women’s volleyball team

“It is a great honor for me to become national coach in Germany. I am very proud. It’s a great opportunity for me, I can work with fantastic players,” said Bregoli and emphasized: “We have to have a common vision and develop step by step as a team.” The 50-year-old already knows many German national players from the series A1 – especially Camilla Weitzel, who played under his leadership in Chieri for three seasons.

Head national coach Christian Dünes sees Bregoli as exactly the right coach for the German women: “He can lead experienced players as well as develop young players and form a team out of a group.” DVV sports director Jaromir Zachrich was “happy and proud” to have gained “such an experienced and qualified trainer” for the DVV. “We believe that he can develop the players both individually and the team as a whole and take them to the next level,” says Zachrich.

Bregoli succeeds interim coach Alexander Waibl for the German women, who returned to Bundesliga club Dresdner SC as planned. Waibl took over the team in the spring after the short-term departure of Vital Heynen, who preferred to work in China. The next big goal for the German selection is the World Cup in late summer 2025 in Thailand (August 22nd to September 7th). The last time the German women qualified for the Olympics was in 2004.
