Bologa is bronze at the A1 Italian Cup. Basset, Boscaia and Sanapo finished fifth.

Four finals played and a bronze achieved: this is the response that comes from the tatami of the PalaPellicone in Ostia, for the FVG judokas who fought in the A1 Italian Cup today.

Taking the third step of the podium in the 90kg was Nicolae Bologawho after the initial victory against Giovanni Tosti, was stopped in the semi-final by the then winner of the category, the Ligurian Matteo Rovegno. Having landed in the bronze final, the Dojo Sacile standard bearer prevailed with a nice ippon over the other Ligurian, Mattia Atzori, thus putting a well-deserved bronze medal around his neck.

“I thank my teammates and my coach for supporting me until the final. It was a tough race, however I am aware that I can perform better and I am waiting for the opportunity to prove it”.

However, the podium was missed for the teammates Kail Basset (66) e Francesco Sanapo (100) and for the Judo athlete Tamai Giulia Boscaia (63), who fought to the best of their ability but missed out on the medal, at least this time. These are their comments:

Kail Basset: “It was definitely a high level race and all the athletes in my category could have medaled. Unfortunately, today I wasn’t able to express myself at my best so this fifth place is too tight for me.”

Francesco Sanapo: “The race went badly, we need to get back to work immediately to find the right path, obviously we’ll take the experience home, you’ll find out if it was useful in the next interview…”.

Giulia Boscaia: “For this Italian Cup I was unable to match last year’s bronze as I lost the final for the bronze itself. I had a good race with ups and downs and a good final but it wasn’t enough and for this I’m saddened.”
