It’s a beautiful novel, it’s a beautiful story. In the summer of 2022, Ugo Humbert returned home, to Metz, in the fog. Jérémy Chardy arrived, not from the South but from Pau, to find him at the edge of a winding path to help him clear up a rather blocked horizon. The left-hander was only 24 years old at the time and, after reaching the top 25 in the world rankings in June 2021, he had just injured his knee and would end up falling below 150th place in the world in August 2022.
“When I had a very complicated period, when it was very hard mentally, I can say that he was one of the only ones, the only one who was there to help me,” said Ugo Humbert about “Jim”, Chardy’s nickname, in November 2023 after the first title of their collaboration, at the Moselle Open.
