Grimacing the skipper of Armel Le Cléac’h’s former Imoca, Brit Air (2nd in the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe) filmed himself removing his left shoe before showing his severely swollen ankle. Jingkun Xu was able to put on protection to immobilize his ankle and ease the pain a little. A situation far from ideal. “It’s going to be windy tomorrow (Monday, editor’s note) and my legs are going to be really debilitating. (…) It’s awful but I have to be able to live with it.”he added, his morale touched but not dejected.
The Chinese, who is 180 miles from the leader, Sam Goodchild (Vulnerable) has passed Cape Finisterre and chosen a route along Spain and Portugal, perhaps to avoid the strong winds which could force you to make a lot of effort and aggravate your injury.
