Jakob Johnson has already been sacked five times this NFL season. He could still be on the field at the New York Giants game in Munich on Sunday.
NFL fans in Munich can hope for German football professional Jakob Johnson to play at the Munich Game on Sunday. “I’m on the plane. I’ve already handed in my passport,” said the Stuttgart native in an interview with the German Press Agency.
Johnson is having a difficult season with the Giants and has been released and then re-signed multiple times. The four-time Super Bowl champion released him just last Wednesday, only to bring him back on Saturday. “We had injuries,” Johnson explained the back and forth on Instagram.
Therefore, the Giants needed space for new players in the squad. “But they have already said: ‘As soon as we have a chance, we will bring you back immediately.’ And being the honorable men that they are, they called again the same week.”
The Swabian is playing his sixth NFL season and was previously active for the Las Vegas Raiders for two years. His career began in the best football league in the world with the New England Patriots, for whom he played for three seasons. In total, the avowed supporter of VfB Stuttgart has made 69 appearances in the NFL so far.
In the 2020 season, he scored his first and only touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks. At that time, after Markus Kuhn, he was the first second German player to achieve this feat in the NFL.
Playing at the Allianz Arena on Sunday would mean a lot to Johnson. “It would just be another very, very cool moment on my journey. I would just have a lot of fun playing in front of friends and family in Germany,” he told the German Press Agency.
He organized tickets for 52 people for the game in Munich. But even without any effort, the trip was a win for him. “For me, victory is just being there, regardless of whether I’m on the pitch or not.”
