Jannik Sinner wins number one ranking trophy in front of home crowd

Turin. Italian tennis player <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/australian-open-the-path-of-the-italians-sinner-with-tsitsipas/" title="Australian Open, the path of the Italians: Sinner with Tsitsipas”>Jannik Sinner was honored with the ATP No. 1 trophy in front of the home crowd on Monday. Former World No. 1 Boris Becker and ATP Chairman unveiled the pioneering ‘ATP No. 1 Club’ during a ceremony on Monday. The club was created to honor former and current ATP players who have reached the pinnacle of the sport.

Sinner won her first two Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and the U.S. Open. Win as Open. He mathematically regained the year-end No. 1 title a month earlier.

“There is no better place to celebrate this trophy,” Sinner said. Meanwhile, his mother Sieglinde said emotionally, “Thank you for all your support.”

The 23-year-old Sinner is the 19th player and 29th overall to receive this year-end honor.

Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur in his opening match on Sunday in the final event of the year for the top eight players and will now face Taylor Fritz in the final on Tuesday.

Sinner is playing at home for the first time since his U.S. debut. Before the Open titles it was announced that he had tested positive in two separate drug tests this year.

The World Anti-Doping Agency had appealed the decision to clear Sinner of wrongdoing in September. The final decision in this case is expected early next year.
