The ‘Jeonju City Badminton Team’, which will promote Jeonju, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province nationally and globally through sports events, has taken its first step with the founding. As a result, Jeonju City has taken its reputation as a sports-friendly city one step further by operating the fourth workplace sports department following Taekwondo, swimming, and cycling.
On the 13th, Jeonju City held a founding ceremony for the ‘Jeonju City Hall Workplace Sports Department Badminton Club’ at the International Conference Hall on the 3rd floor of Eulmaru, National Tangible Heritage Center, announcing the beginning of the expansion of badminton’s base and the development of the sport.
At the founding ceremony on this day, badminton elders, leaders, and association officials attended the event and wished for a successful settlement for the players and coaches taking their first steps.
In addition, the founding ceremony was held with the congratulations of numerous sportspersons, politicians, and administrators, including Vice Mayor Kim In-tae, members of the National Assembly, city council members, badminton-related club members, student team coaches, business team coaches, and elementary, middle, high school, and university federation officials.
The founding ceremony, which began with the congratulations of many athletes, was carried out in various ways, starting with a congratulatory performance by the Jeonju City Gugak Orchestra, which heated up the atmosphere of the venue, followed by an introduction to the founding process, which had many twists and turns, and congratulatory remarks from key guests.
To commemorate the founding of the badminton team, various organizations in the Jeonju area donated 100 packets of white rice, expressing their desire to share for the local community. The donated white rice will be distributed to local orphanages through Wonkwang Mother Resources to support underprivileged children and youth.
In relation to this, the Jeonju City Hall badminton team will be led by coach Kim Yong-hyeon, a former national team coach, and players Joseph Han, Hyun-min Lee, Dong-hoon Ha, Gyeong-jun Yoo, Seong-chan Park, Won-jun Lee, and Seung-hyeon Myung will play for Jeonju City.
The recruited players are excellent talents who have won numerous awards at the National Sports Festival and the National Badminton Competition. In particular, captain Joseph Han is scheduled to participate in the national team selection match in December and is evaluated as a talented player with outstanding skills.
They plan to participate in various domestic competitions on behalf of Jeonju City in the future, and are targeting the spring league competition for each sport to be held in March next year as their first competition.
At the founding ceremony, coach Kim Yong-hyun expressed his ambition, saying, “By founding the Jeonju badminton team, I will revitalize the local community and grow Jeonju into a badminton powerhouse.” In addition, Coach Kim added, “We will do our best to produce excellent players by discovering local talent and establishing a systematic training system.”
